July 20, 2015 - Normandy -Chambres d'hôtes La Gloriette, Longues-Sur-Mer Battery, Pointe du Hoc, La Cambe German War Cemetery, Bayeux & Rouen

We absolutely loved the kitchen.

This was the first set of steps to the rooms in the big house.
Those stairs lead to this floor where there are a couple of rooms.  The door that is open at the end....
leads to these stairs.
Which leads up to the top floor.  Our room is on the right and then it looks like there is another room at the end of the hall.
This is the view from Elaine and Fred's room towards the big house with our rental van in front.
Their room was very cute and could sleep 3 people.

They had a kitchen that was shared with the room on the other side.  This would be very nice if you were staying a few days.

It also has a nice little patio in front.

Our first stop was Longues-sur-Mer battery which is located between the Omaha & Gold landing beaches.

Our next stop was Pointe du Hoc.
You can see and walk through a lot of the craters that were made by bombs.

We have been having some fun with friends back home that are trying to find Roger in some pictures.  So we actually do a few pictures with him actually hiding.

This one was blown to pieces.

Then we went to the La Cambe German War Cemetery.

We stopped in Bayeux for lunch.

This seagull was making a lot of noise.  As I got closer I realized there was another bird that was answering it, so they were just volleying back and forth.

                        Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Bayeux

There was an exhibition of some photographs around the cathedral.

Of course we had to get some dessert before we left town.
The farmers were demonstrating against imports because they feel that they can't make any money.  Lucky for us they left one lane open so we were able to get through.  We heard later on the news that there were some highways that were shut down due to the protests.

We are spending the night in Rouen.  We would have loved spending another night in the D-Day beach area but we have to drop off the car and board the train for Amsterdam tomorrow before 12:25.  Finding the Mercure Rouen Centre Cathedrale hotel was a royal pain to find.  The location was great for us to be able to see the cathedral and the historic center before dark.

We weren't able to go inside the church though because it was already closed.
