Well we are off to Normandy today. Elaine and Fred took a taxi to the Sixt rental car, while Roger and I took the metro, so they were there waiting for us.
We set the gps to avoid tolls on our way to Mont St. Michel so we got to see more of the countryside.
We stopped in this little town and had lunch. We walked into this little bar/cafe and weren't really sure what we were going to get. We just pointed to some things on a board. Fred tried another hot dog since it was something he could understand. It was a hot dog but it had melted cheese on it. Did you know that he does not like cheese. Well he did say it was the best hot dog so far on the trip, which really isn't saying much since he hasn't really liked any of the others he has had. He likes mustard on his hot dog and that really isn't the way they serve them here. If they did have mustard it was sweet which he really didn't like.
Across the street was a bakery that turned out to be a great find. Everything was a Euro, we think it was because it was later in the day and they wanted to clear out the shelves. We were wishing later that we had gotten a few more as they were the best pastries that we have had this trip.
We did make a stop just to stretch our legs.
It had nothing to do with the bakery that we saw.
It was for historic reasons.
We made another stop at a rest area and Elaine decided to try a crabapple off the tree that was not quite ripe. Her face was priceless.
Our first view of Mont St. Michel from the road.
The view from La Jacotiete our B&B for the night. It was a little difficult to find for the gps since they have re-routed roads and put in a visitor center but we had directions in our reservation confirmation which did help. It would have helped even more if we would have known which direction we were really coming in from.
We had a great view from our window. We had to climb a convenient little step to see out.
We shared a family room since we were only going to be here 1 night.
There is a free shuttle within a short walk from the B&B that we caught to take us out to Mont St. Michel
It is truly something special to see in person.
Glad we do not have to haul our luggage up these stairs.
I have to say the nice thing about coming out here in the early evening is that there are not very many people.
We ended up watching the tide come in, which was amazing to see how fast it truly does come.
We took the bus back to one of the stops where there were some restaurants and hotels to get something to eat. We chose to eat at La Rotisserie.
I swear we ate dinner first but here are pictures of our desserts. I really didn't care for the crepe that I got. Not bragging but I like mine better. The salted caramel ice-cream on the other hand was very good.Elaine got the sampler platter with creme brule, cheesecake, an island something (bottom right), a not so good chocolate cake, a piece of dark chocolate and an espresso, which she gave to Roger.
Roger got a caramel sundae, which he loved.
Fred got a banana split.
Then we took the bus back out just to get a glimpse of Mont St. Michel all lit up. Beautiful isn't it?
Then when we got back to our B&B Roger and I went and took some more pictures.
