We first walked along the Arno River until we came to the Ponte Vecchio Bridge.
Of course since we were there so early the shops weren't open and there wasn't much traffic except we did have to watch out for the street sweepers. I thought for sure they were going to spray us with the water.
We took advantage of the views.
We then walked past the Galeria Degli Uffizi to the
Piazza Della Signoria, which is an outside museum itself. This is where the replica of the Statue of David is.
We finally set off down the narrow streets to find the next awe inspiring site.
Which didn't take long. This is the Duomo.
The intricacies of the work with marble is amazing.
But right there is the Baptistery with doors that Michelangelo said were worthy to be the Gates to Paradise. Of course pictures do not do this bronze work justice.
We then went and got into line for the Accademia which is where the original Statue of David is. This is another site that is truly awe inspiring. You are not allowed to take pictures inside the museum but it is not as if you could truly do the moment you first see this statue in person justice.
Can you believe when we left the Accademia it was only 11:00 in the morning. Wow our heads were swimming with all the beauty we had taken in this morning. Well it was already pretty warm so we decided to just start heading back to the hotel to wait in the lobby area to check in.
One of us decided to check up on what was in the news.
One of us was trying to stay awake.
And one lost the battle.
Well they did let us check in early. Now you will see why if possible you rent an apartment instead of a hotel room. Can you guess where are bathroom is?
I almost thought that I had messed up and booked a room that you had to use the bathroom down the hall but suddenly I saw some light coming out of what I though was a closet door. The rooms are very small. Now though we are just living out of the suitcases since we are not here long enough to worry about unpacking.
Well we hibernated in our cool rooms until it was almost dark outside. Then the hard job of trying to find somewhere to eat. After walking for what seemed like forever we finally settled on pizza from a walk up.
After dinner we walked around and then stumbled upon a impromptu concert in the piazza. So we sat and enjoyed the beautiful evening with the locals and other tourists listening to some good music.
What a beautiful stage he had to perform.
