July 14th Arrive in Rome

We arrived at our last wonderful hotel in Rome  around 12:30. We then headed out around 2:30 to head to the train station to try to get Roma Passes but they had sold out so then we headed towards the Colosseum to purchase them.  Of course I was not prepared for this so I didn't have my camera or as I have now learned to also always take a snack and water because you never know when you will finally be able to eat.

I had thought I died and went to heaven when I saw the Lindt candy store, that is until I went in and saw the prices and then I realized I must be somewhere else since I could not afford to buy any.

The monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II was a beautiful site.

Yes that is Roger photo bombing their picture.

Roger and Pam are always good about reading all the info.  While Mike & I just walk around and look.

We climbed up to the second terrace and had some good views of the city.  They also had an elevator that would take you to the top for 7 Euros but we didn't think it was worth it.

We had a great view of the Colosseum from up here.

It is amazing to see all the ruins that are here.

It is hard to take in all the history that is around us.
Harder yet is for Mike and Pam to be able to cross the street without getting hit.
But they finally did.  We found a little cafe and had dinner before heading back to our hotel and enjoying a glass of white wine that we had purchased at the winery in San Gimignano, thanks to the hotel for having a corkscrew so we could open it.  We are looking forward to seeing the Vatican tomorrow.

  1. I'll bring extra Euros so I can take the elevator! But seriously, it looks amazing! I think you might need to put an orange vest (the one she wore for yard duty) on Pam, so she can be seen and not hit!
