The train station was just down the street from out hotel. This is when you are glad you pack light.
Amanda passed the time on the train by watching tv shows on her ipad that she had downloaded earlier.
We took a Rail Jet, which got us to Salzburg in 1 1/2 hrs.
It was an easy walk to the Hotel Pension Adlerhof which we will only be staying at for one night. They were very kind and let us check into our room early. Fred & Elaines' room was not ready when we arrived but they called our room maybe 10 minutes later to let us know it was ready.
I love our bed.
Our room has some real character.
I guess they added these sconces for the men.
Well we had an hour and a half before we were supposed to be picked up at our hotel for the Sound of Music tour. So we thought we would walk around a little bit since we are not going to get to spend much time here. Well guess were Elaine headed....the bakery right across the street. No purchases were made though.
Had to take a picture with the Sound of Music cow.
We headed toward the old part of town.
You can tell this town is all about the music, even their bikes represent music.
We could see the fortress up on the hill.
We just made it into the old section of town when we had to turn around and head back to the hotel.
I had pre-purchased The Most Unique Sound of Music Tour along with the Sound of Salzburg Show through City-discoverycom. The tour guide was very informative about what was real and what was for Hollywood. They also have a hop on hop off tour that says it goes to the Sound of Music locations and I think that would be better so that you were not rushed and can see some of the other things that are around the sights. But since we were there for only one day this was the best way for us. What was nice is that they came and picked us up at the hotel.
Our tour guide.
They moved the gazebo from where it was originally because it was on private property and too many people wanted to see it, so they moved it to a park.
We just did a drive by of the house that they used for the front of the Von Trap home.
You can see the fortress in the background.
They made a stop at Sommer-rodelbahn and Amanda rode the toboggan.
They also took us to the town that has the church from the movie. Earlier we drove by the church that they had actually gotten married in.
Don't remember there being a tv in the church.
I like where they hid the floor cleaner.
The isle she walk down.
What a beautiful place for some ice-cream.
After the tour we split up. Fred, Elaine & Amanda went to dinner. Roger and I ran back to the hotel, he dropped off his camera that had gone dead and I changed clothes real quick. Then we headed back to meet them at the bridge.
So now we set out to find the Salzburg Show.
We got lucky and stumbled along the fountain that Maria had sung and played her guitar by.
It was an adventure trying to find the show. There were no signs directing us.
But we did find it, it was right by where you would catch the funicular to go to the fortress. We were early but they let us come in and sit at our table. during the show they sang songs from the Sound of Music, some folk songs that the Von Trap family had sung on their tours and some songs from Austrian Opera's along with playing some Mozart pieces on the piano.
Roger got called up on stage to dance.
The views as we left the show were beautiful.
We finally got to ride the city bus so we didn't have to walk as far on our way back to the hotel.
