After breakfast we headed to Heidelburg and visited the castle and a little of the city.
Since we came on a Sunday morning the streets were pretty quiet.
Elaine found the chocolate shop right away. To bad they are not open on Sunday.
Even the plants in Germany love their wine.
Oh but the bakery was open. Believe it or not we did not buy anything.
We just window shopped...at least for the moment.
We could see the castle but just wasn't sure how to get up there. Elaine asked a shop keeper for directions but we were still a little unsure. So what do you do then just follow other people to see were they go. The old town has some very pretty buildings and nice squares.
For 6 euros you can take the funicular to the top and back and go inside the castle walls. If you walk up it is still 6 euros. It is free to walk up and see the gardens.
The walk up is pretty steep but not that bad, just make sure you don't take the stairs unless you have legs of steel. The cobblestone is uneven so you may want to take that into consideration.
If you don't walk up you may still want to walk over to the side were the walk up enters.
The views from the castle down on the city are beautiful.
But the view from the furthest part of the gardens of the castle and the town are even better.
There isn't much that is included in your 6 euro ticket but you can visit the German Pharmacy Museum.
Which showed all types and ages of medicine jars,
and equipment used to make the medicines.
They also have the largest wine barrel.
They gang took a break and we did make use of the free WC, since the ones in the tourist office was ,30 euro.
We decided it was time to get something to eat. Well as we were looking for actual lunch we found these schneeballen. Which is kind of like strips of pie crust that have been bundles up and some have fillings and some just have it on the outer part.
This is the one I got. Amanda got one filled with a coconut cream. We did go and have lunch at a little shop in the old section of town.
Then when we got back to Hailey's we walked to Eiscafe Venezia, where we got some very yummy ice-cream. We did this to celebrate Rogers birthday a day ahead since this will be out last night with Hailey.
Then we came back and played Up and Down the River until 11:30 again. Brady, a friend of Hailey and Amanda's came over and played with us.
We have had fun seeing Hailey and are sad to leave her, but tomorrow we head to Rothenburg ob der Tauber via Wurzburg.
Well it is now 1:30 in the morning and the dryer finally shut off so I am going to sleep now.
