June 21, 2015 - Porto

Today we headed out to do the Yellow Bus tour.  We used our receipt from the tour we did in Lisbon to get a 10% discount on this one.  The orange route, that we did today, takes 2 hours to make a round trip.

When we reached the beach area we decided to get off the bus for a little bit, since it was much cooler by the water.
We walked to the end of the pier.

Elaine actually helped me drink the Sangria today and we ate the fruit for dessert.

We don't think this is an OSHA approved work site either.  They are getting ready for the big festival on the 23rd.  There are stages being set up all over the city along with carnival type rides, food booths and wine gardens.
We walked up this steep hill to go to the Cockburn's Port cellar to do a tour and port tasting.  The tour was included in our Yellow Bus tour package.

The reserve ruby port was in the big vats because you don't want it in contact with the wood very much.
The Tawny is placed in the smaller barrels.  Which can be aged from a minimum of 4 years to 70 years or even longer.  They do have some still aging from 1900.  They also have 2 vintage bottles from the late 1800's that she said were not for sale.
Roger and I enjoyed the tasting.  Elaine shared hers with us and poor Freddy was still recovering from the walk up the hill.

View back to the side of Porto that we are staying on.

We walked across the bridge to get back to the apartment.
There is a funicular that will take you up the very steep hill or of course you can take the stairs.

The days are going by very quickly and we are always surprised how late it is.  We thought we were heading back to the apartment early when really it was already 5:30.  When it started cooling down around 7:30 we headed back out.  We sat along the river and listened to musician playing his guitar and singing.  The next thing you know it is now almost midnight and So you think you can dance is on the tv but this is the view I am actually looking at with my tablet in the window sill.
Life is good.  Good night.
