We did get up early since the plan was to leave around 6-6:30 but of course we didn't leave until 7:30 and by the time we got fuel and on the freeway it was 8:30. We were ready for a break when we got to Elk Grove so we went in to Sams Club and bought some snacks and some items for lunch. Roger was pretty happy when he topped off the tank and it only took 4 gallons of fuel.
So we stopped at the Mt Shasta rest area for a quick picnic.
The water was so low that you couldn't even see it from the rest area.
The view of Mt. Shasta was with us for a while.
This will be the longest driving day on the way north. We saw elk in the Butte Valley.
They were chip sealing the road into Ft. Klamath so we were able to admire the green pastures for a little while.
Tonight we are staying at the Aspen Inn tonight. The owner Heidi checked us in and gave us information about where and what to do in the area and around Crater Lake. She also had bug spray, flashlights and probably anything else you needed that she would let you use for free if you forgot them at home. They also have a very friendly cat that rules the office. They have a map on the office wall that people put a pin in to show where they are from. They have had a lot of people from all over the world.
The following pictures are really for those that may want to check out the rooms to see if they want to stay here. We were in room 3. Heidi had told me on the phone when making the booking that there was not a restaurant close by and that we might want to bring food and that there was a microwave and refrigerator in the room. It was also nice that they had a little dinette table.
Our room had a queen bed and a nice sofa. I like a firm mattress so the bed was good. I really liked the tile floors.
We had a nice clean roomy shower. Not sure if the family rooms have a bathtub or not. There is a blow dryer in the cabinet under the sink.
